Psychologist and author Mary Trump has analyzed the behavior of her uncle, U.S. President Donald Trump, in a new public appearance, claiming that his instincts to deny responsibility and attack victims were learned decades ago. The White House responded to her accusations with harsh insults.
Donald Trump became a “monster” because no one ever held him accountable, claims his niece, the daughter of his brother Fred Trump Jr.
Psychologist and author Mary Trump told the Daily Beast Podcast (the video can be watched HERE) that the president’s instincts to deny responsibility, attack victims, and escalate conflicts were learned many decades ago. These traits are now more pronounced than ever, given the crises the administration faces daily, as well as thanks to the Supreme Court, which “gifted” him broad immunity.
“From the beginning of his adulthood, if not earlier, Donald was never held accountable for anything, and he was indulged at every turn,” said 60-year-old Mary Trump. “And over time, that creates a monster, and we are seeing it happen with increasingly serious consequences.”
Mary recalled what the president’s sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, told her during his first term about how the roots of his behavior are connected to Fred Trump, his father.
“I commented on how he, Donald, is incapable of taking responsibility for anything, and I was somewhat shocked to see how something that was once considered a wonderful trait in adult human beings — taking responsibility, apologizing — has been completely turned on its head. It has now become a kind of sign of your strength and masculinity to deny any wrongdoing and never take responsibility,” said Mary Trump, author of the book Too Much and Never Enough.
“And she said, ‘Oh, he learned that from your grandfather,’ because apparently my grandfather never took responsibility for anything either. It was always someone else’s fault.”
Many people in Donald Trump’s inner circle “understand exactly what they need to do to stay there,” his niece added. That means going on the offensive and lying about victims, such as in the case of the shooting of federal immigration agents in Minneapolis.
“Some of them are like him, you know: perfectly comfortable lying as easily as they breathe. Perfectly comfortable blaming victims. The only thing they care about is maintaining their own power and proximity to power,” she said.
“Donald has modeled this behavior for decades: be a bully, be a thug, be dishonest, and then… complain when you think other people are behaving the same way. In fact, after the killing of Renee Good, Donald actually said that she had been unfair to law enforcement, as if that meant she deserved to be killed.”
Mary Trump added that the Supreme Court has emboldened those in the administration by giving Trump practically free rein over actions considered official, reports tportal.
“That spills over to other people in the administration. So now we know that you can be a participant in an insurrection against your own government, and as long as you support Donald Trump, you will be pardoned,” Trump continued.
“If you are an ICE agent who cold-bloodedly kills American citizens, as long as you are doing it in service of advancing Donald Trump’s agenda, you will be pardoned. You will receive absolute immunity, which is something that doesn’t exist at all, and they won’t even allow local and state law enforcement to be part of the investigation. So we will never even know the truth.”
The president is not afraid of consequences because he has no reason to be, Trump concluded, referring to his four indictments and one conviction.
“He’s gotten away with everything, not because he has some special powers or some special strengths,” she said. “I repeat, he is probably the weakest person I have ever met in my life. It’s because his enablers continue to find him useful.”
Asked for comment, the White House disputed Mary Trump’s credibility.
“Mary Trump is a total loser and has no idea what she’s talking about,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung told the Daily Beast. “Her entire value as a human being is based on spewing lies about President Trump in a sad attempt to remain relevant.”
