Former U.S. President Donald Trump said that his earlier remarks in which he suggested he might not end up in heaven were made in jest.
Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, he accused the media of taking his previous comments about the afterlife literally. “I was only joking,” Trump said about his earlier remarks.
He added about heaven: “I really think I should end up there. I mean, I’m not a perfect candidate, but I’ve done a lot of good for perfect people.” Trump also commented on Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who sometimes votes against the party line. He emphasized that Republicans usually manage to reach agreement after negotiations—everyone, he said, except Massie, according to Index.hr.
“No matter what we do, this moron, no matter what it’s about… There’s something wrong with him,” he remarked.
Massie, a congressman with libertarian-leaning views, angered Trump when he said that the U.S. president did not have the authority to attack Iranian nuclear facilities without congressional approval. He also voted against Trump’s major tax and budget cuts bill and called for the release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Trump also spoke about traveling by airplane. Recalling a trip to Iraq during his first term, Trump said he does not like sleeping on long flights. “I don’t sleep on planes. I don’t like sleeping on planes,” he told those gathered at the National Prayer Breakfast.
“You know, I like looking out the window and watching for missiles and enemies,” he added. During long international flights, Trump often talks with advisers, posts content on his social media platform, and goes to the section of the plane reserved for the media to answer journalists’ questions.
